Underwater World Sea Life Mooloolaba

Quick Overview of Underwater World Sea Life Mooloolaba:

Located on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Underwater World is Queensland’s largest aquarium, featuring a diverse array of marine life such as sharks, seals, sawfish, turtles and tropical reef fish (amongst many more).

What Is It?

Underwater World Sea Life Mooloolaba is a massive aquarium located on the Sunshine Coast, about an hour and a half drive north of Brisbane.

The multi-award winning aquarium is packed full of marvellous aquatic animals that are split into various zones throughout the facility, including the Seahorse Sanctuary, Tidal Touch Pools, Seal Island, Shark Shipwreck and many more.

When you first enter Underwater World, you’ll find yourself at the interactive Tidal Touch Pools, where you can see and touch an array of marine life, including unusual sea cucumbers, sea urchins and beautiful sea stars. The Tidal Touch Pool offers an amazing interactive experience where kids and adults alike will enjoy learning about the amazing marine life.

As you follow the path through the facility you’ll find yourself in a hall filled with smaller individual aquariums, including the pacific reef and the coastal wreck displays, which feature all kinds of amazing sea creatures… our favourite display was the seahorse sanctuary!

Our absolute favourite part of Underwater World however, would have to be the ocean walkthroughs – huge tanks with underground walkways that allow a spectacular view of the tank from all angles. These larger aquariums feature sharks, rays and turtles, amongst many other fascinating sea creatures.

There are plenty of other great things to do at Underwater World, including the seal island; a live show featuring extremely smart and well trained sea lions and fur seals.

In the freshwater streams section you’ll also find massive barramundi, frogs and even a freshwater crocodile!

What Should I Bring?

We recommend bringing some comfortable shoes, as you’ll spend a lot of time walking through all the various aquariums, as well as your camera to grab some shots of these amazing sea creatures! There is also an in-house cafe located just past seal island, however if you’d prefer to bring some of your own food, there are plenty of places located a short walk outside the facility next to the river where you could set up a picnic blanket.
